Santa Fe #1346
NEW PHOTOS &
UPDATED INFO

ATSF Full Bar Lounge car 1346 built by PS in 1950 for the El Capitan.
Modified by ATSF into air brake instruction car 5010 (later 76) in
1972. Rebuilt with stainless fluting over stainless skin by ATSF.
Side sills, crash posts body and vestibule in mint condition. ATSF rebuilt car
in recent years with 35 KW 220v 3 Phase Detroit/Lima 4-53 diesel
generator, electric OH & oil hot water floor heat, Trane AC. The car
can operate on generator, 220v standby or 32v DC power. Santa Fe
also installed a full sized baggage door on one side of the B end of
the car. The car is set up with two classrooms on each end with a
projection room in the center which would make an excellent
bar/kitchen area. The car could easily be converted back into a full
lounge, used as a table car for a dinner train, or bedrooms could be
added on one end. Trucks are newly rebuilt ISH with tread brakes,
Timken bearings, decelostats and all new wheels. Couplers are CS
Tightlock and brakes are D-22. Windows were blanked over with simple
stainless sheets that could be easily removed and replaced with
original window frames which come with the car. With the excellent
mechanical and subsystems already in place, the car only needs to be
cosmetically redecorated to your specifications to be placed in
service. All the mechanical rebuilding and heavy lifting have
already been done by the renowned ATSF Topeka Shops.
