B&M Caboose #491

Originally built in 1960 for the Boston & Maine Railroad, rebuilt by
current owner into a private caboose. This car is in
operating condition and stored on a shortline. The short line operator for a modest fee will take
the car for a 4 hour 295 mile round trip through some of the
most stunning scenery in the area. Currently stored on a
private siding and Buyer can assume track lease or move the
car to another location in North America. Many upgrades and
improvements have been done to the car. As you walk into the
car from the platform end you enter a cozy lounge/dining
area with four swivel parlor chairs and tables and two
sliding glass windows. Next is a small kitchen area with an
antique wood/coal cook stove that can be used for heating
and cooking ( a small electric space heater goes with the
car also). The kitchen area has plenty of dry storage and a
small refrigerator/freezer. Next is a sleeping area with a
new Futon convertible bed and as you open the original end
door you enter into the forward platform that has been
enclosed to house a toilet and dressing area. The car is
wired for 110v and is equipped with a Honda 2,000 watt
generator. This car can be used for both stationary use or
as an operating car on the current railroad of the
tourist/shortline line of your choice. Some of the
mechanical details include: roller bearings, Honda 2,000
watt generator, ABDW air brake, great body and paint, good
wheels, fully operational.
PRICE: $20,000
This caboose was sold but is now
back on the market.
