Cascade Nights

Built in 1949 as a 10 roomette 6 double bedroom sleeper by
the Pullman Co. for the Florida East Coast Railroad. Named Caparra
the car was one 7sleepers built for joint service on
the Champion and Florida Special. In 1967 it was
sold to Canadian National Railroad and to VIA Rail in 1978
and renamed Riviere Cloche. It was then retired in 1989 and sold into private ownership
in 1992. The
current owner installed new upholstery, carpet, paint and
upgraded the car for Amtrak service and converted two
roomettes to showers/restrooms. A small food service area
was also installed for light beverages and snacks, Amtrak
assigned the car accounting number 800580 and the 40 year
truck rebuild was performed in October of 1993. The car has
operated very little since it's rebuild and the last PC-1 inspection was dated 5/24/95.
Some of the mechanical details include: Steel construction,
H couplers, roller bearings, D-22 valves, tread comp shoes, HEP, 27 pin, main reservoir line, electro-mechanical air
conditioning, over head and floor heat, emergency lights,
markers, ISSH, drop equalizers, 480v/230v/110v d/c
electrical system, all bedrooms equipped with Mircrophor
toilets, 500 gal holding tank installed, 60 gal electric hot
water.
