DESCRIPTION

Built in 1946 by American Car & Foundry for the Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad as their business car #1. When the GM&O merged with the Illinois Central Railroad in 1972 the car was transferred to IC and renumbered to IC #10. The car remained in railroad executive service until the late 1970’s when it was sold to Jim Green at Texas Tank Car Works, who removed the asbestos and all under car equipment to prep the car for rebuilding. The car was sold to Union Pacific Railroad in 1985 with the intent that it would be rebuilt into the UP executive fleet, for whatever reason UP decided not to rebuild the car and they sold it into private ownership in 1987. Since 1987 the car has been stored on a shortline and has seen occasional use for special events. Some of the mechanical details include: Great body (small swipe on one end), it was sand blasted and painted with Imron primer (date unknown), built by ACF using a center sill from another car (explains why sill looks different from most cars), 3 axle trucks (from an Illinois Central baggage car), bolted pedestal, grease bearings, good wheels, cast shoes, truck mounted cylinders, new gate posts on both sides of end gate on plat form (seller has all gates but no brass railings), new coupler carrier hangers (heavy duty), AB valves, very clean under car with a  lot of new steel installed , original MARS light over rear platform. The floor plan consists of a large observation lounge (seats approx. 8-10), 2 large bedrooms with connecting bath & shower, large dining room (seats approx. 10-12), general toilet & shower off hall from dining room, crew room and large kitchen. Seller has all the original blue prints and drawings for the car and much documentation including files that state the  interior of the car was designed by the famed industrial designer OttoKuhler.  Please note current furniture stored in car is not included in the sale.
