Business Car #2 circa 1930's


Built in
1883 by the Pullman Company for the Illinois Central Railroad as wooden business
car #2. Rebuilt in 1929 and modernized with steel under frame, steel sheets and
air conditioning. Downgraded as a pool business car in the 1950's and interior
updated. Sold into private ownership in the 1970's. Interior floor plan consists
of large observation lounge, secretaries room, state room, connecting
toilet/shower, master bedroom, dining room, crew room and kitchen. The interior
is paneled in rare African Mahogany and includes original furniture and Pullman
style carpeting. The wood throughout the car is in very good condition with no
to little water damage. Kitchen end of car does have some water damage from roof
but is contained to the kitchen area. The car is currently stored on cribbing
but both trucks are available and next to car. Please note that this car is a
composite car originally built of wood construction and is not able to be
shipped on it's own wheels by rail, it will need to be trucked from it's current
location. Some of the mechanical details include: Original platform railings,
steel under frame, original interior, welded roof, air conditioning, hot water
heat, original D/C electrical system, rear vestibule porters shower, oil fired
boiler, electro mechanical refers, steel side sheets over wood construction,
Sharon couplers, Waukesha air conditioning & generator, ISSH trucks, grease
bearings, body mounted cylinders, UC valves, cast shoes.
