Built
in 1948 by the Budd Company for the New York Central as a 42 seat "Grill Diner"
an operated as part of the NYC pool fleet. Transferred to Penn Central and
finally to Amtrak. Rebuilt by Amtrak as part of their Heritage Fleet program and
renumbered #8514, retired in 2004 and sold into private ownership. Some of the
mechanical details include: full Head End Power, electric floor and overhead
heat, emergency windows, emergency lights, full Amtrak electrical locker, marker
lights, freeze protection, H couplers, good body, air conditioning (2- 8 ton
units), great trucks (NYC T-6-XR), thick wheels, 6x11 APF bearings, comp shoes,
26-C brake valves, 240v 3 phase stand by plugs to run refrigerators, ISSH, truck
mounted cylinders, seats 48 passengers. Car is equipped with a full electric
kitchen that includes: grill, refrigerators, freezers, steam table, dish washer,
bun warmers, microwaves & convection ovens. This is a very turn key car, give it
a good cleaning and put it in service.
