Built
in 1948 by the Budd Company for the New York Central Railroad as a Buffet/Lounge
Observation car and operated in general service across the NYC system. Sold by
the NYC to the Kansas City Southern in 1960, retired by KCS in 1970 and sold
into private ownership. The current owner started to rebuild the car as a mobile
office and entertaining area when the project stopped. The original bar area was
removed (download floor plan) and replaced
with a open kitchen, two restrooms (one w/shower), bedroom sleeping 2 and a
office. The rest of the car is open for use as a lounge/dining area. Some of the
mechanical details include: Single side HEP, NW Rail electric locker, new
kitchen appliances, shower, Microphor toilets, custom cabinets, new electrical
system, new glazing, new interior wood trim, electric heat (floor & overhead),
new hot water heater, rubber diaphragms, H couplers, 6.5 x 12 APEE bearings on
6x11 centers, comp tread shoes, new 3" wheels, trucks received a truck tune up
with several new equalizers (no 40 yr inspection), ISSH, truck mounted
cylinders, new 480/240v transformers, Maneurope air conditioning system, freeze
protection, ABDW valves, holding tanks, emergency lights, draft gears have been
dropped and inspected.
