On a recent business trip we visited four
separate rail related operations. All four were in the same geographic area
and had very similar demographics. Two of the operations were thriving and
boasted good revenues, maintained equipment and have shown an increase in
their revenues even in a tough economic climate. The other two operations
were struggling to keep the lights on, had equipment in disrepair and really
had doubts they would survive much longer. After thinking over the
differences between the successful and the not so successful operations we
realized that the not so successful operations needed some sound business
advice. As many of us know the business practices applied to railroads are
literally a science. And practices normally applied to non rail entities do
not always merge well when applied to anything that is equipped with steel
wheels.
One thing that often discourages small
operations from seeking help is the cost. OMR's founder originally got into
the railroad industry by being actively involved with a non profit
organization, so we fully understand the financial limitations of many
businesses and organizations. With this in mind we only charge $45.00 per
hour for our consulting services. Clients are billed by the hour with no
hidden fees or charges. If we are required to travel to your facility we
will quote you a daily charge plus reasonable travel expenses. We will even
consider exchanging rolling stock for our services.
