Illinois Central Coach #721 SOLD

-- Located in Ohio. Asking price: . --

Originally built in 1918 by Pullman Standard as a 80 seat heavyweight coach for the Illinois Central Railroad. Rebuilt in 1952 by IC's Burnham shops to a 52 seat air conditioning long distance coach. It operated on many of the IC's secondary trains but was known to substitute for equipment on many of the IC's premier trains. Retired by the IC in 1968 and sold into private ownership. #721 operated for many years on Norfolk Southern steam excursions and it operated regularly behind NKP #765, N&W #611 & N&W #1218. Since the demise of the former NS steam program the car has been used regularly in tourist & dinner train service. Some of the mechanical details include: Good body( a few rust holes beneath one hall window but leak was repaired) and roof, H couplers, D/C electrical system (still works with batteries), D/C air conditioning system (works but needs some attention), steam heat, oil bearings, 3 axle trucks, truck mounted cylinders, cast shoes, D-22 valves (in date until 12/14), stainless steel vestibule steps and deck, water tight windows, one large restroom on one end of the car and on the other end the restroom was converted into an owners lounge, some of the coach seat frames were removed but Seller still has them. #721 would make a great addition to any tourist operation or dinner train, the DC electrical system does work if the car is supplied with 230v 3 phase or it would be a great candidate to convert to a diesel generator or Head End Power. All exterior paint is 5 years old, one side of car is painted in Baltimore & Ohio Railroad passenger colors and the other side is painted a version of the Great Northern Railroad.
