Built in
1952 by the Budd Co as a long distance coach for the Burlington Railroad and
operated on the American Royal Zephyr and the Aksarben Zephyr. Eventually sold
to Amtrak and rebuilt in 1990 as a table buffet car for service on the Auto
Train. Sold by Amtrak into private ownership, most of the buffet line has
been removed but a small section with several refers and a freezer remain
leaving a large open area that can be used for additional food prep, gift shop
or room to build a complete kitchen. Some of the mechanical details include:
Seating for 48 passengers at booths in the dining room, good car body, marker
lights, full HEP, 27 pin, emergency lights, emergency windows, floor heat, over
head heat, air conditioning, full Amtrak electrical locker, freeze protection,
side loading doors, H couplers, disc brakes, 26-C valves, electric decelostats,
good wheels, MU line, MR lines, Superliner style diaphragm, clean interior, TV
cabinet at one end of dining room with room for DVD player, PA system, plenty of
storage. It would take very little to put this car into service, would make a
great addition to any dinner or tourist train operation. NOTE: The booths and
carpeting has been removed from the dining area, we will be receiving updated
photos soon.
