40 KW Diesel Generator

40 KW, 3-phase, 480 volt genset. This generator was built in 1984 specifically for a rail car. Casper Engineering built the genset using an Allis-Chalmers 433i engine. The engine and generator were completely functional when removed last September.

Per a conversation with the engineer, the engine is rated for a peak output of 45 K and a continuous load rating of 40 WKw. The electrical engineer from Casper Engineering is available for consultation.

Filters and fluids have been changed twice in the last 200 hours. New injectors were installed in the engine in 2013 and have less than 100 hours on them. The radiator and fan are separate units. The radiator was removed, cleaned and pressure tested. The fan unit is powered by a 240V motor and was working when removed. The 32 volt starter has been rewired in 2012 for 12 volts and works perfectly.

An engine operation manual for the 433i engine is included. Also included is a basic wiring diagram from the electrical engineer at Casper Engineering. Photographic documentation fo the wiring set up will be included in the sale. The housing for the genset has been cut away with a torch, but will be included in the sale as it can be used as a model for fabricating a new housing. A complete set of gaskets (cost of over $500) is also included in the sale. Parts for this engine are still available, including injectors, gaskets and filters. As a cross reference, the Allis Chalmers 6080 engine is a match to this one.
